Sunset from Sotol
This 180° panoramic photograph was created just seconds before the sun disappeared behind a cloud bank on the western horizon. The vantage point was the Sotol Overlook in Big Bend National Park, Texas. The view is from the southeast to the northwest. The layering effect and progressive fading of the colors of successive rows of mountains is known as atmospheric perspective. This had been a very hot and hazy day which could be attributed to aerial moisture, dust, smoke from nearby wildfires, and possibly even pollution from distant cities in Mexico. Photographed in September of 2011. ~φ~ Fred Stevens
